“You know what would be super cool, is if the statue reached out and grabbed that little kid.” He whispered into her ear. She immediately looked back at the statue. A family positioned their two little girls beneath the statue’s outstretched hand.
“Why would you say that. you know what will happen next.” She grabbed him and hastily left the square, hoping nothing would move. Shrill cries rang out behind them, but she kept them moving further away.
“What’s wrong with you? I told you my thoughts were dangerous.” She hissed.
“Can’t you stop it?”
“No, stupid. Once they’re live I can’t do anything.”

I'm not sure if I'm reading the tone here. My first instinct is to cue villainous laughing in the background. Think about what an evil wizard would do with someone who could animate things with just a thought. What were you thinking?
Delete"Once they're live..." Oh my. Oh my my my. I don't think I want this person as a friend. I'd prefer someone more "thoughtless." Intriguing piece Atiya.

I think she needs more training, not on controlling her thoughts, but picking friends that won't give hr the idea.

DeleteOh, very nice. What's worse--having your thoughts come true or having someone who forces you to think them? I'd name it something simple like "A Penny for Your Thoughts" or just "Thoughts."

After sleeping on it. I think I'd rather intergate it into my novel. The Character could go both ways god or evil and just might be the thing I need to move my book along. But I do like your second suggestion.
DeleteAtiya, I really like what you did with this one. Thoughts do bring about the realities they create, and this was a hyperbolic example of how that might not be a good thing. :-)

ReplyDeleteI do too, and it is pretty realistic the imagine some irresponsible friend saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Friends are good for that.
DeleteLike the others, I loved where you took this - just two inches to the right of the picture proper, and into a totally different reality - perfect!
ReplyDeleteYeah actually yes that's what I'm going for. The two characters just sort of wandered near the monument and one of them decided to have a joke at some one else's expense. That's a terrible reality to exist in. I'm glad it's not real.
Deleteone of my favorites this week. the ending great. no control over the thoughts, but trying to run from them before they work their magic.

ReplyDeleteI intend to write her and her awful friend into s book I've been tooling around for the last year. I've notice that too. Most the stories I've seen so far have been cerebral or historical or just plain funny. I guess that's a good thing???
