Friday Fictioneer Photo - The Long Weekend - It's not what you think.

I'm from the city and I love it. I'll admit that once in a while when I leave the city I get a little homesick for the noise. I don't miss the dirty air though. Or the rude people, or the street vendor food. I take that back I love street vendor food.

The Long Weekend - 102 words

“What’s that smell?” Shayna gagged.
“It’s called, clean air.” Marissa inhaled deeply.
“Well, I don’t like it.”
“Sucks for you. You need to get out of the city more often.” Maybe taking Shayna to the farm was a bad idea.
“For what? Hills? Grass? The grass looks dead and there’s no cell reception.”
“But look a horse!” She pointed to the field, which was pretty brown.
“Oh wow, a stupid horse.” Sarcasm, not necessary right now.
“You’re blowing this.”
“Blow me.”
“What’s it doing?” Marissa ignored her.
“Ha, Ha, maybe it’s watering the grass.” This was going to be a long weekend.

  1. Doesn't sound like she's too keen on the simple life! Nice idea.

    1. I've actually met people like this. I mean I love my tall buildings but wide open spaces are good fro the soul. Thanks for reading.

  2. It's definitely going to be a long weekend! I think this sort of visit has to be carefully planned to have at least a few things that the country girl is pretty sure will grab the city girl's attention...maybe a cute cowboy? :-)

    1. You might have just invented the city girl's cure for country life. You never know. Thanks for coming by.

  3. Funny how when kids turn into teens they so often hate nature. I liked this story, the dialogue was very realistic.

    1. This could be anyone. I remember my first foray into nature I went camping near a lake. I hated every minute of it for the first night. Now I love it. As fro the dialogue, well on my worse days, that's how I talk. I'm ashamed to admit it, but it's true. Thank for for stoping by.

  4. I'm liking the cute cowboy idea! Once she sees a hunky, shirtless trainer, she'll be wanting horseback riding lessons in a hurry....

    1. I don't know about lessons but I'm sure I'd stay by the fence and watch.

    1. That's what happens, truly. The minute the reception goes we start panicking.

  6. Cute story, Atiya. Kind of Green Acres with an edge. Maybe Shayna will warm up to the idea after a while.

  7. Those city dwellers don't gnat to lead a simpler life. They want everything at their fingertips.

  8. To paraphrase a saying...You can take the girl out of the city but you can't take the city out of the girl--Hopefully, a couple of days in the country will convert her. Well done.

    1. We have to hold out hope that she just relaxes and let the country life grow on her.

  9. Dear Atiya,

I love it that your character entertained the possibility that the horse might be watering the grass. Very cool.

    Aloha,

    1. Dear Doug,

To be fair, it sort of looks like the horse is watering the grass. I have a question, what is that on it's head?

  10. Yeah, I'd be pretty annoyed with someone like tagging along on a weekend trip like that. Country mouse-city mouse, I guess. :)

    1. Ha, I can't say I miss the smell of exhaust, but here is a huge difference between clean air and, uh, the alternative. I think it's more so the drastic change in scenery, than the actual smell.
