The Stuck-ness of this week's Book Review

I'm usually very good with getting through a book that needs a review. This week's book is posing a little bit of a challenge. While the concept behind the story is truly engaging, I'm just not feeling the pull that I usually feel when I have a new book in front of me.

I'm strangely also having the same problem with my current ebook. I think though it's because it is a Mystery though and I'm not a big fan of that genre. I do like this ebook, the main character is dealing with some issues that I can relate to in a very personal way.

So with that in mind I'm giving myself until Saturday to complete these books. Sorry kiddies You'll just have to wait until then.

Enjoy the exorbitantly large picture of just my eyes...

Friday Fictioneer's - Potential

This week's Fictioneer Photo Prompt threw me for such a loop that I pretty much ignored it until I realized that I hadn't done one since the week before last. I wish I hadn't skipped last week now. But I'm going to give it a go-go and see what happens.

Potential

“The challenge is to take these random heaps of scrap and make art out of it.” The voice from video said. Its tin-like sound grated on Charity’s ears as she fidgeted with her wire cutters. “You have two days to complete your masterpiece.”

Charity was considered dumb as rocks to the folks at school, but here in her garage she was an artistic genius. Her previous sculptures lined the shelves while she eyed the mesh wire. There was potential here and she knew it.

Charity closed her eyes the metallic scent of the wire came to her. She began to work.

Things That should Never Happen in the Same 48 Hours

Taken from IMdB
The last two days have been rather interesting for me. They may not be very significant to you or anyone else but I think they should not have occurred while I was aware. We could call them a Series of Unfortunate Events. Or we could just say the last 48 hours and be done with them.

Let's start with 12/12/12 and the over abundance of Facebook messages stating that the end of the world was at hand. Come on people, if the End was at hand do you think I'd have time to troll Facebook? Negative Ghost Rider, I'd be screaming bloody murder and huddling in a corner with my dog. Fact: I really would be huddling with my dog because, what else would I be doing?

Speaking of dogs, right before I headed out with my Best Friend to do some serious grocery shopping, some ass clown hit one outside my house. Anyone who follows me on Google+, Twitter or the infamous Facebook will know that there is more than a slight problem with the stray dogs in my neighborhood. There's also something with everyone owning chickens and roosters but that's another issue all together.

A dog that looked to be some Malti-Poo or Bichon Frise mix was hit in front of my apartment the other night and Animal Control had to be called. I'm sort of familiar with this little one so I was pretty sad that it was now suffering. My neighbor an Army Medic, assessed it and pretty much listed it's injuries as: a shattered pelvis, one broken leg, a couple cracked ribs, one or two head injuries, possibly some internal bleeding. The driver never even stopped.

What pissed me off is that the owner of the dog arrived right around the time Animal Control did. They said that the dog "Toby" escapes every time they leave the house. Are we serious? You know this is going to happen and yet you do nothing to prevent it? We were very angry over that statement and did not feel bad when Animal Control offered to euthanized Toby right there on the spot. The four of us (my two neighbors, my BF and myself) felt that Toby's owners were beyond irresponsible.

The next day finds me stuck in the house all day trying out my new medicine. It makes me so sleepy that I miss a super important call regarding a job interview, another super important call regarding the guy who stole my check back in June and my appointment to donate plasma. Anxiety medicine is supposed to calm me down, not put me out. Now, awake at 2:30 in the morning, the earth began to shake.

Which brings me to, this morning Earthquakes, yes I said quakes as in plural, meaning more than one. In fact, there were two somewhere off the coast that were 6.1 and 6.4 in magnitude. Nothing could make me more homesick for Japan than an earthquake. But not this time and of course since no one would be awake at 2:36 am I figured it was safe to get on Facebook and post about it. I was wrong there were a few and from them, I learned that San Onofre was built to only withstand a magnitude of 7.0 Earthquake. Great, what in the world is San Onofre?

From Wikipedia
San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. I looked it up. Methinks back to March 2011 when the Plant in Tomadachi, Japan went into melt down. All hell is breaking loose in my brain. Good thing I'm on the worlds greatest anxiety drug, I can sleep right through it. Which is exactly what I do after reading all about how jacked up San Onofre is on Wikipedia. Hey, the meds throw me off...

Which is why at roughly 12:45 this afternoon I wake up again to Facebook all atwitter with people saying how saddened they are by what happened in Connecticut. What happened in CT? My dad lives there and I'm a little concerned.

Well I'm sure you know now that someone open fired at a school killing defenseless people, mostly children under the age of ten. This is very bad, but whats worse is the fact that the media is glamorizing it. I'm not going to talk about the gunman, or the President's reaction or putting our nation's flag at half mast. I'm not going to contribute to the hysteria surrounding this terrible event. I'm going to say it is a sad day, a terribly sad day and keep moving. And here's why:

Right here is where I'm supposed to have a youtube video about why 24 hours of constant coverage about a mass killer only glorifies the gunman into some kind of antihero. The video I wanted to play here is not loading so sorry kiddies no youtube insight here.

My day is not ever and I know that something somewhere will make this day even more perplexing. Ah yes... Okcupid.com is doing a 12 matches of Christmas thing. Whatever happened to just enjoying the Holidays because it's the Holiday's????

What Am I Reading Wednesday - Containment by Christian Cantrell

I’d like to treat you kiddies to this epically awesome story by first time novelist Christian Cantrell.  I mean seriously treat you. Cantrell bases Containment inside a dome on the planet of Venus. Humans have managed to colonize the inhospitable planet but still struggle to be completely self sustaining.

The book is way passed imaginative with it’s faux history and inventive look into our Earth’s future and his world’s past. The story chronicles Arik a young genius raised completely inside the Venus dome along with 99 other young people. His life’s purpose is to make the Venus dome habitable for more the dome’s vigorously monitored population of 1,100 citizens.

His job becomes that much harder when his wife Cadie become pregnant. While searching for a method to create a plentiful air supply Arik discovers a mountain of secrets that threaten everything he know about the dome and his own existence.

I loved this book because like another techno thriller I reviewed earlier in 2012, this is chocked full of brain busting imagery and science that my head twirled trying to grasp what the author was showing me. I get a great sense of feeling in each section and found myself not bored with the technical jargon despite my lack of education in that arena. I literally did not want to put the book down after Arik made his discoveries and even missed my bus reading how he found a resolution to the conflicts in the story.

Arik is  very likable character until the very end and because he maintains a likable guy status so well,  I ended up hating just about everyone else in the story even his wife Cadie regardless of her involvement in the conflict, which was pretty minimal. I pitied his genius for what knowledge he found and applauded the sacrifices he makes to make sure that the people inside the Venus dome achieve everything they asked of him and the information they weren’t supposed to know.

This story isn’t so much about a conspiracy. It is more like a crisis of identity, with everything Arik believes and understands. How Cantrell brings Arik to that realization is purely masterful.

I recommend Containment for anyone who has hope for the future of space travel and has faith in the Human Natures ability to still be curious.

The Alternate Reality and Getting things done.

One day I'm going to slip into a coma and wake up in a place where every person I've ever invented will actually exist.

Imagine actually bumping into Toddy and Errol, Boy and Grand Pa, Felicity Meyers, Steven Cuppard, Pete Johnson, Bestie, Barry the Shoe Whore and Jeanie, Celine Heydan, Petra, A-23, Ruddick, Malik, Davis, and Randall, Deena the deserter, Laine, Naomi, Riley and Jiro, and Geri?

Chaos would ensue. Some of these people aren't human. Some of these people aren't adults. One of them would be me. Heck all of them are me in one way or another. The scary part is that the stronger characters might actually kill me.

I'm not saying this because I'm slightly insane. I'm saying this because in my ming there is only one reason why there were so many people gathered together. The end of the world just happened and we were the survivors.

Maybe something less serious. I'm not sure but I know for sure that Heydan, Grand Pa, Jiro and possibly Errol will look at me and decide that I'm dead weight or the villain. Steven and Malik might want to control me. A-23 and Jeanie might just start spying on me. Deena might leave and take Geri and Laine with her and the rest will accept that I'm just a person stuck like them.

It's be Survivor in my brain. Minus the prize at the end.

The reason I'm even thinking about this is because I've been looking over the stories I started this past year.   I don't know if I'll ever get back to some of these characters until the time is right. I'd like to think that a few of them will pop up in a Friday Fictioneer short. I'd absolutely love to be able to revisit Jiro and Naomi to see what the gifts are bestowed on them next year. The point is that some of them deserve a second chance, in some cases maybe a first.

But most of all I want to finish The New God.

This November I did something that I previously never did. That was complete a novel. While Never Getting Laid Again was just a throw away novel for the NaNoWriMo challenge I actually finished it.  I spent exactly one day away from it then I decided that I didn't like the ending. Technically that means that the novel is once again unfinished, but it was for at least a day. I'd like that same opportunity with The New God.

I want to reach a point in every novel I write where I can sit back sigh and say: Lets do some editing. I'd especially love it for TNG. That was the book I set my heart to finishing before I die. But I'm not going to stop everything because I seemed to have lost my place in TNG.  I proved I can immerse myself in something else. If that something else becomes a published work then Yay for me.

In the mean time, let's all hope I never ever slip into that coma.

Friday Fictioneer - The Kindness of Shiny Lights

This week Rochelle got a little festive and so did I. Strangely I didn't feed from my bottomless pit of anxiety and self doubt. Or my unrealistic fears of pretty much everything. Instead I looked down at Chewy and found some happy.

Enjoy- The Kindness of Shiny Lights.

Copyright- Rochelle Wisoff-fields

Whatever she was smelling was upwind. It was hot and promised to be filling. Food was hard to come by in the winter but as long as the shiny lights sparkled she could always depend on some human to give her scraps.

She nosed the ground and shuffled closer to the human standing on the curb. The scent came from him. If she whimpered nicely maybe he’d drop something? She wagged her tail hoping to convey her hunger. Then the human noticed her.

“Duchess is that you? Where you been?” She recognized the boy she’d lost years ago.

Also before I forget - Rochelle celebrated 41 years of marriage this past week. Congratulations Rochelle and I wish you many more.

Friday Fictioneers- The Right Way

Well that was quick. I just posted something like twenty minutes ago. I guess I'm on a roll. I was taking a peak at this weeks Fictioneer photo prompt and the story just came to me. Well in all honesty that picture was just great.

If anyone has ever seen the Labyrinth, you'll immediately recognize the potential of this photo like I did and just let your imagination run away. Please enjoy -The Right Way

Copyright- Joyce Johnson a Fellow Fictioneer

Sara passed that same hideous face five times already. The only one in the Labyrinth that did not talk to her. It just cackled gleefully at her, the voice of it ringing in her ears. Its face permanently mocking her, taunting her while she tried to break free. It never actually moved, she just heard it, in her head.

She ran left this time, back tracking and ignoring the finger that pointed to the right. She ran, only to arrive back at the same finger and that same horrible face. Sarah sank to her knees. The laughing continued.

I like the 10th Doctor Who, enough to sit through a Rom Com

Instead of writing for the last two days I've been sitting on my couch watching Netflix. Not to worry though because I pulled almost 5000 words out my ass in three hours just now so I'm going to finish on time.

Anyway, back to my two days of watching television. I'm surfing through my suggestions which by the way, on Netflix they suck, I start watching romantic comedies. I have no good reason to be watching that drivel but I do. I like to laugh and I like to fake like there's hope.

Basically despite my being raised by wolves, surrounded by crazy women, and spending the last few years, sailing a bunch of seas with politically incorrect Sailors (blissfully), I'm still essentially a female with frilly female ideas on what romance should be.  Well, actually I buy into what I'm told is the frilly idea of what romance should be.

But that does not stop me from watching some thing just because Doctor Who is in it. So that is why last night I found myself watching of all things, The Decoy Bride, starring David Tennant. This is not the first time I've watching some thing because of a Doctor Who actor had a role in it.  Some time at the end of the summer I discovered Party Animals with Matt Smith from 2007.  But forget him I'm all about the wibbly wobbly timey wimey right now.

So The Decoy Bride stars that  young woman who played that young Scottish maid in Gosford Park and the tenth Doctor Who. It actually turned out to be a fairly decent movie.  A lot of funny Scottish people running around with being proudly different from everyone. I have to wonder why the movies do that. It's like they go out of the way to make Scottish people and Welsh all seem really crazy. What ever once you got over the over done silliness of the extra character you managed to get an okay story line and mildly entertaining comedy from it.

So yes it fulfilled its requirement for a romantic comedy. But really I was watching it for my favorite Doctor. He's actually not that bad of actor when he's not pointing a sonic screw driver at things.

But after two days of watching the idiot box I did finally sit back down at my computer and work on my story. I wish it didn't feel so much like work at first. But once the words finally decided to flow I was fine.

Random Thought of the Day

Well it is definitely winding down to the last few days of  NaNoWriMo and yours truly is kind of stuck. I'd like nothing more than to finish this story just because it has been such a fine ride for me this month. That and I miss reading. I have several books lined up and two, no wait, three that I did start but had to put down for what ever reason before November started.

Anyway as usual I'm stuck in the "break up." Felicity and Steven are literally breaking up RIGHT now and I'm having the hardest time trying to get that into words. But I shall plug away at it because my status board on the website says that I might finish my 50,000 words by the 28th. I have faith I'll get to that mark. I swear I do.

Random thought: If guys actually behaved the way they do in romance novels do you think there'd ever be unsatisfied women walking this earth?

So yeah in case you feel like coming back after Nanowrimo here are the books I have lined up.

The Dog Stars by Peter Heller
Inheritance by Christopher Paolini
Containment by Christian Cantrell
Bite me by Christopher Moore

All of these are paper or hardcover books I also have a few e books and they are:

Only Human by Chris Reher
The Lighter Side of Large by Becky Siame
The One We Love by Donna White Glaser

Unless I find a job kiddies I plan to knock all these out by the New Year.

But for now I'll try to knock out my word count and bring back the Friday Fictioneers and maybe a Bean Counter once in a while. Seriously, kids the world is a mess and I need to keep count.

The word count update: Not ahead not behind

Today I reached 25,000 words in my story. I should have done that two days ago at the rate I was going then decided that I could take a break. Anyway I put down 3000 today before the creation of this blog entry and I'll probably write some more after this just to keep going.

Anyway here's a little bit of the story. incase you're actually interested:

Never Getting Laid Again

Felicity was just coming down the smedium sized hill with her laundry cart when her phone chirped. She had a feeling it wasn’t Bestie because he’d been involved with Jake since the show at The Quarter. She figured that it might be Barry or one of the other guys she knew. She let the call go to voice mail. She’ take care of everything once she had all her laundry put away.

On cue the voice mail beeped right at she was rounding the corner to her home. She waved to the neighbor who always seemed to be watching her. One day she was going to flash her bare breast at her. Maybe she’ll stop watching her apartment so much. At the top of the stair she could hear her dog and her home phone going off. She must be in high demand.

Perrito nosed his way past the door only bolt back inside when he spotted the Laundry cart. Felicity pushed the cart into the apartment, closed and locked the door. Her dog greeted her with a stray pair of underwear he most likely squirreled away while she was packing for the laundromat.

She checked the house phone first. That one was most likely to give her good news, even if the news was only marginally good. She entered her passcode. Two messages stating that her department store account was past due and a request for an interview. That was excellent news. She’d call them back immediately.

She headed to her office and booted up her lap top, her files would tell her more about the company that responded. Then she would so a search on their San Diego location. But not before calling them back and checking her Cranium account. She replayed the message for the number and redialed it. Her interview was prescheduled for three days from now. From that she gather that this was either group interview or a pre interview screening. Either way it was good news.

She finally checked her cell phone. It was Steven, her insides tightened. When ever he wanted to see her she knew that she was going to be in for a great night. He was smart, charming, unbelievably sexy, rich and very generous. None of that mattered though when he was in the room. He dominated every thing with just his existence, and she believed his only purpose in life was to keep her so off balanced that she could nteve think straight around him.

Even her dog seemed to lower his defenses around him. She remembered what she told Bestie the day she met him.  Vulcan Mind Meld he seemed to deliver that first day never wore off. Each time she saw him socially it got stronger, it even seemed to work on her friends. Felicity joked once that he might not be human. No man could not possibly be that persuasive.

His message was quick:
“Hello beautiful, I have tickets to Cirque Du Soleil tonight, I thought that you might want to wear something nice and watch it with me. I’ll be by at 7 the show starts at 8:30.”
She looked at the clock on the wall. It was 6:15. Shit Shit Shit. She ran to her bathroom stripping her sweats off along the way. This would be the quickest shower. Perrito followed her to the bathroom until he came across a particularly stinky sock. Just as he settled down for a good mauling of her sock, she was out the shower just barely tripping over him. Felicity ran to her bedroom with soap bubbles trailing behind her. She rushed so much that she didn’t completely rinse off.

She stood in front of her closet wondering what he meant by something nice to wear. The practical side said to dress fro the circus. The other side said wear a dress. “Stupid wear something warm.” She said to no one in particular. She grabbed the lotion and began rubbing it in. The clock said 6:29 she was sure that time was traveling faster in just her apartment. She put on a pair of underwear and realized that they were granny panties. They had to come off. She settled on a plum colored 60’s inspired dress with a sweetheart neck line. She gathered her hair into a bun on the top of her head and added some purple beads around her neck and dropping from her ears. She was just slipping into a pair of pumps when Steven  knocked on her door.

She walked out to her living room to find her laundry cart, still stuffed to the brim with laundry and effectively blocking the door. Fuck Fuck Fuck, she mumbled while her dog barked insanely around the cart. Her to do list for today only had laundry and relax on it. She didn’t feel relaxed. She pushed the cart into a nearby closet hoping that she’d remember it tomorrow when she woke up.

Steven stood there looking eight ways of delicious dressed in a  gray blazer and more dark jeans. “You look good enough to eat.” He said by way of greeting. He moved in close, wrapping his arm around her waist. He dipped his head low the the crook of her neck and nibbled there. She splayed his hand across the top of her ass pressing her close to his body. Felicity  flowed with the movement placing her hands on his chest. She was learning his body and getting down his movements. While nothing was ever routine with him , she began to have an idea of what to expect.

“Just let me get my purse together and then we can go.” She stepped away from him and headed into her bed room looking for all the things that should be going in to her bag but never seemed to find it’s way in there.

“I think I see your phone in the office. Do you want me to grab it?”

“Yeah.” She said on her way to the bathroom. Her wallet was still in her sweats.

“You have an appointment coming up?” Her computer was open to her calendar.

“Yeah I have a job interview.” She peeked into the office. She was getting used to him being so invasive. She still felt a little skittish sometimes around him but that was also wearing off.

“Anywhere good?” He handed her phone to her, then placed his hand on the small of her back.
“I’m not sure yet but they are paying above the average so I’m going to try to impress them.”

“I think you should just come work for me.” He leaned over her and planted a kiss full of sensual promises. She melted in his arms right there. He deepened the kiss  making her moan back into his greedy mouth. She was a fuse waiting to be lit around him. He could touch her anywhere and she’d be ready for him, just like that.

“And what would I be?” She gasped coming up for air.”Your assistant? Your companion?” He dipped lower to the tops of her breast. “I think I told you that I would actually need to work.”

“You’d be my therapist.” He slid his hot tongue between her cleavage. The hand behind her back moved up to the metal tag of her zipper. “I get stressed out a lot. You can be my stress relieve.” The teeth of the zipper rasped slowly as he pulled it down.

He released her only to grab her behind her back and knees. He carried her to her bedroom. He finished peeling her dress down revealing the strapless bra she threw on and the non matching thong.  He left the shoes on. Felicity was not sure what he was goin gto do to her but she knew that when ever he touched her she would love it.

She watched Steven slide down her under wear and position her feet close the her butt. He pushed her knees down spreading her thighs apart. He put his middle finger to his mouth, pressing it against his lips. His tongue darted out the lick the tip. He opened his mouth and inserted his finger, closing it and forming a seal. He sucked his finger, while fFelicity stared deeply into his hazel eyes. They flashed green as she wantonly thrust her hips in the air. She begged with her body to be the recipient of his touch. She raised her hands about her head and grabbed on to one of her many pillows. She could feel the liquid heat flowing from her.

“What about the Circus?” She whispred as Steven bent to the mattress. She rocked her hips gently when the bed sank under his weight.

“We’ll make the show.” He ran his hands from her ankle to her knees then down again, where he wrapped his large hands around them each. He blew on her too ready lips. She quivered whole bodily when her did it again. “I just want to make sure you know how delicious you look.”

He brought her to orgasm using his hands and his lips. He didn’t stop until she screamed out his name and almost pushed him away. When the last of it rolled through her body she opened eyes she didn’t know she’d closed. She reached down to caress Steven’s soft curly hair. She felt languid and relaxed, she could lay there all night.

Just when she began to drift off she felt the bed shift. Steve rose from edge of her bed, not before placing a quick peck on her belly. He brought her knees together, then reached for her arms. He stood her on wobbly feet and deftly redressed her.
“It’s only 7:30, well make the show.” Felicity could smell her on his lips and was even more turned on. She leaned into his body and kissed him deeply. She pulled him close just to feel his erection pressing against her stomach.  She wanted to return the favor right then and there. She naked her fingers between them.

“We won’t make the show if you continue though.” He grabbed her busy hands in one of his own. He lead her out of her bedroom grabbing her purse on the way to the door.

The next day Felicity woke beside Steven. She smiled at Jar Jar who decided the warmest place was between the two of them. Waking up there always made her feel a little apprehensive. But she pushed those feelings aside. She stretched as much as she could with out disturbing the cat or her human, which was not much.

The sun filtered in through the window behind the bed. This was the quiet time she had to herself before he was up and running everything. She was having fun with him. He was perfect, handsome, confident, sexy as hell. But he was too much. Some times like last night, she felt like she was a completely different person. A person she didn’t know, and Felicity was not sure if being with him was worth changing herself.

She tried to talk to Bestie about it but Bestie in his fashion told her that she was whining.  She missed him sometimes on the nights that she got the be alone. Felicity talked to Barry a few times about things with Steven. The Shoe Whore basically told her that she needed to to anything and everything to keep him. Felicity knew that in some respect he was right. But this felt wrong.

Steven began to wake beside her. He reached for her, upsetting Jar Jar who’d curl in to a little orange ball. She unfurled herself and slinked away to another spot on the bed. Felicity pasted a sleepy smile on her face while Steven rubbed his face between her uncovered breast. She stared at the ceiling, wishing that he was the one.

NaNoWriMo Update

The Update. Well it's into day five. I haven't put anything down for today just yet but still doing pretty good. I have  total of 7,330 words on a story that I have to say might be as neurotic as I am. That's crazy right? So what am doing here, you might ask. Well I decided that someone might want to take a look at what I'm doing. No worries. The NaNoWriMo site has a place for excerpts too. You'll see this same thing over there eventually.

Never Getting Laid Again by Atiya Townes

An hour later her little pad had a fairly decent rendition of a yacht that bobbed in the water across from her. She decided not to ad color to it. She’d work with just grays and black on this. The inspiration took her quietly for another hour. She hardly noticed the wind picking up a little or the people walking by.

So it was almost a minute before she noticed that one of the people supposedly passing by wasn’t actually passing. He was tall lanky sort of medium toned skin with bouncy black curls tucked into a short pony tail behind his head. He had a metal coffee mug dangling from one hand and leash attached to cat in a harness, perched on his opposite shoulder.

Felicity stared at the stranger for a full minute before she realized she was staring. Then she dug into her big bag for her, phone hoping the cat man would stay still enough to let her take a picture. The cat, and orange striped one, arched it’s back, then made a quick shift to the other shoulder. The man leaned forward a little to help it along the way. Felicity cooed to herself at the whole gesture. She gave up on searching for the phone and just watched the man and his cat. His back was to her so she didn’t feel like she was intruding. Plus in her mind if a man was walking around San Diego with a cat on his shoulders he expected people to stare at him, she thought. In her mind it was his own fault for drawing that much attention to himself.
The man shifted  slowly so that his profile was facing her. He had one of those noses that seemed confused. It was rounded yet pointed outward just a little, but not enough to be considered too large. Her more talented friend in Florida would have a field day trying to draw his nose.

Felicity gradually became aware that the cat man knew she was staring at him. Something in his too relaxed posture and the way he allowed her to study him. He casually angled his head towards her as if he wanted her to take him in bit by bit. A smile slowly inched across his face as he fully turned to face her. When he was leaning with his back against the railing he finally focused on Felicity. She stared at him completely forgetting all her training in manners.

She was amazed at how beautiful he was. She ogled him with a sort of objective detachment. Her head leaned, cocked to one side while she studied him. Then a flush of awareness raced through her when the man turned his smile up from welcoming to sexy. She hoped her nipples did react to him. She cursed herself for wearing one of the lacy get ups today. And with that last thought she could feel her nipples tightening, whether it was from arousal or embarrassment she’d never know.

She leaned forward hoping to point her girls away from him incase she poked him in the eye. He dialed his smile up to smoldering in. Felicity blinked several times to try to regain control of her composure. She looked down at her note pad, the yacht no longer held any interest for her. The cat man sucked up the little inspiration she had. She turned to a blank page hoping the whole time that the cat man had moved on. She refused to look up in case the man was still there. The curiosity was killing her though, she would look up one last time. Maybe he’d be gone now that she’s not looking at him anymore.

Felicity was working up the nerve to take one last peep, when she heard the grass crunch in front of her. The orange tabby arrived first, circling her spot then stopping to sniff the contents of the big bag beside her. Felicity liked cats, she had a few when she was growing up. She knew that even if the cat was friendly she still had to respect teh fur baby and let it introduce itself on it’s own time. The owner on the other hand just happily sat down next to her.

“Mind if I sit here? Thanks. Hey what are you working on?” He grabbed her art book boldly knowing that she’d just sit there stunned.

“Uh umm” There were three million things going through Felicity’s mind beginning the moment he came into view. Stay cool girl stay cool don’t say anything. “Err ghad hag.”

The cat man frowned.

“I mean go ahead.” Felicity said. What happened to not saying anything? Where’s your head girl.

“I’m Steven. This is Jar Jar. I have to tell you, you’re not very good at this.” He flipped through the book dismissing each page. “I like this one though.” He looked at the boat in the harbor. “Not bad at all. you should finish this one.”

“Thanks, I think. Who are you?” Felicity wanted to lick him even if he was insulting her. Wait. He was insulting her. She grit her teeth. Who was this asshole?

“I just said I’m Steven, and this is my cat Jar Jar.” He put down the book and held out his hand. She stared at it noticing all the little scars decorating it. She shook the offered hand awkwardly.

“You named you cat Jar Jar?”

“At least my cat has a name. You don’t seem to have one yet.” He gripped her hand briefly before releasing it.

“Flic short for Felicity. I guess nice to meet you.” Her hand tingled a little. She felt warm all over. She was still mad at him for telling her she want’ very good. But she still felt warm all over.

“Well Flic short for Felicity do you want to go get some coffee? I’m on empty.” He up ended the metal mug. “There’s a coffee shop not far from here.” His chin jutted in a direction behind her indicating which way the shop was. She looked behind her and found Jar Jar getting comfy on her bag. He’d somehow climbed into the bag. She though of the many Cheezburger memes on the internet. “If it fits it sitz” She smirked.

“Uh yeah I guess, but your cat is sleeping in my purse,” He peeked around her at the cat and shrugged. “is this some kind of game where you get your cat to steal things out of chick’s bags and then disappear?”

“No that’s a neat trick though.” He frowned for moment. “I figured since you were staring at me so hard, that you’d want to have a drink. You practically ate me alive.”

Felicity was embarrassed all over again. Once again who was this character? Who did he think he was?

“I was not staring at you hard.” Then she added with out thinking. ‘Plus you were smiling at me dialed up to sexy so I couldn’t help wondering who you ere looking at.” Oh my God she just didn’t say that, did she?

Steven broke out the sexy smile again then crossed his eyes. “You think I’m sex-y I caught you sta-ring.” He got up from the ground, dropping the book back in Felicity’s lap. “C’mon we can talk about how I’ll make you night over coffee. Grab the cat.”

Felicity’s mouth hung loose some where near the grass she sat on, pretty motionless at that last display of childhood behavior. Then she processed the rest of what Steven just said. So she might actually have sex tonight? Does that mean he likes her? She wan’t even sure if this counted as a proper introduction. Still they just met, should they be talking about sex?

Steven was standing with his hand out looking down at her. She handed him JarJar who amazingly didn’t scratch her for picking him up. As Steven put  Jar Jar on his shoulder she checked out the cat. Not a boy a girl. He named a female kitty Jar Jar? And she was contemplating having sex with him?

She packed up her art supplies and checked for her wallet phone and house keys at the same time. She still didn’t trust him but something int he back of her mind told her that checking was a good idea. She stood up stretching her arms above her heard. The stretch felt so good that she arched out breathing deeply enjoying the elongating of her body since she sat with her legs folded for such a long time. Steven watched appreciatively until she noticed him looking. It was her turn. She offered her own sexy smile as she slowly relaxed her stretch.

Just when he she swore his eyes dilated a little her cell rang. She dug in her purse for the phone. Bestie was calling.

“Hey how’s the park today?” She could hear latin music in the background. He must be at his family’s house.

“It’s great today.” That was the understatement of the day.

“Awesome, don’t forget the show tonight okay. You have to bring your camera so that boys can get some audience shots to post.” The boys from the bar were doing a show called Boylesque Tom Cats. She promised that she’d take some good shots for them, no charge.

Felicity cringed. This might be a now or never deal with Steven. Shit Shit Shit. She thought, and glanced at Steven. He smiled at her patiently, then scratched Jar Jar’s neck.

“Yeah I won’t forget. Hey can I call you back later?” She smiled back at Steven.

“Sure are you busy right now?” Bestie asked.

“Yeah a little I’ll call you later on.”

“Okay” Bestie disconnected.

Steven walked beside her  as they headed for the coffee shop. “Everything okay?”

“Oh yeah that was just my best friend reminding me about something.” She waved off her best friend with a dismissive hand.

“Great, so tell me about yourself Flic short for Felicity.” He walked close to her, practically whispering in her ear. To anyone passers by and onlookers they looked like a very odd couple. Felicity didn’t feel mind except for the fact that Steven was a complete stranger.

“What would you like to know that you think I’m willing to tell you?” She sent him a sideways looks. First at him then at his cat.She was beginning to think he randomly approached women at the park on a regular basis.

“Very good question, Flic short for Felicity. May I just call you Felicity?” He turned fully to her. “That whole thing is just too long.” He even stopped for emphasis.

“Uh yeah.”

“Great, Felicity. You want to know what I want to know about you. HHmm Let me see. First I’ll need your social security number, then the pin to your ATM card and then the contact information for your closest relative.”

“Oh my god, what the fuck? You have to be kidding me, right.”

“I’m not kidding. Since you caught my cat in the middle of stealing your wallet, I had to be completely up front. If you’re a good girl, and give up the juices, I might let you hang around.” He reached for her hand and drew her towards the coffee shop that was just up ahead. He crossed his eyes again. He grinned as he tugged her to the door.
