Seeing: Friday Fictioneer

The Fictioneers are back with a new gate keeper. May I introduce Rochelle Wisoff Fields a fellow Fictioneer that took over for Madison Woods while I was doing my whole I'm not going to communicate with the world thing.

We've got a cool challenge this week with what looks like some kind of festival in a park.  And from that I have to say kiddies I could only cut this one dow to 103 words. I was on a roll before I quit. Anyway I hope you enjoy.

Sunglasses - by Ted Strutz
Seeing

Bailey’s head was pounding, again she revisited the scene looking for a clue about her missing brother. Normally, her ability to see back in time was easy. This time she felt like a boulder was slowly crushing her skull. There was searing piercing horrible pain.

She focused again, first at her and her brother, then at everyone else. The woman just off the center, seemed to stare right at her. Could she see her? The pain in her head increased. The woman just faded into thin air!

“HOW?” Bailey screamed, blood dripping from her nose. “GIVE HIM BACK.” She passed out cold, exhausted.

Check out the other Fictioneers in the Blog Hop on this inlinks thingie.  You can also contribute your own 100 words using the same link. You can peep the Facebook page too, there's  some other information on it that might interest you.

There Might Be a Book Coming Out

Madison Woods a lovely creature that I absolutely want to be when I grow up has a pet project going on. Since she began the Friday Fictioneers with a few writers some time ago she's had this idea to make a book of it. I could be wrong about it being since the beginning. Anyway. The book I guess is supposed to be either cheap or free. Don't ask I don't really remember.

So last minute I decided to contribute to this book I doubt that I even get into it but I sent in two stories. But let me explain the concept: The 100 X 100 project. Much like the Flash Friday Fictioneers, where she post the picture and writers everywhere write a 100 word story. The cap is at 100 stories. The beautiful thing about this is that we may cover the same subjects but we're all going to write something different. I love it.

Seeing as this is going into a book that I may or may not be featured in, I decided to post my two last minute contributions here.

Day and Night

The difference between day and night creatures is just the dawn. But this night beast wasn’t going anywhere until he saw her.

There, from the lining in the horizon she came, the child of light. She was his size but brighter, her glittering wings danced in the dawn mist. His own leathery wings even sang in the joy of her movements.

He rose to meet her. They stopped, floating inches apart.

“This will never work between us.” He moaned, shaking with need.

“But I found a way to be together.” She touched him then and this time, it didn’t hurt!

Ending The Night

Jon was really about to kill Dave for that crazy woman he introduced him to earlier in the evening. But Dave had a plan for her.

Dave pulled into the garage and killed the engine. The weight of the car dipping as they got out and settled on the trunk.

“Is there a reason we’re still out right now?” Jon fished a cigarette out from his jacket.

“I just want to see the sun rise.”

“I guess we’ll bury her later then?” Jon asked. The woman was still moaning from inside.

“Shhh watch the sun.” The woman moaned even louder.

I kind of like the hope that's built up in the first story Day and Night. But I'm feeling a little sinister today like in the second one.

I'll follow up when I have more information.

Friday Fictioneers: Toddy & Errol

This week for the Friday Fictioneers, I bring back Toddy and Errol from "A Country Walk". Once again the boys are out, walking in the country.

By Rochelle Wisoff-Fields

Toddy & Errol
“You can use spiderwebs over a gash, stops the bleeding.” Toddy said to Errol.

“Yeh, well who told you that bit Toddy?” Errol didn’t really care he just wanted Toddy to shut it.

“Nobody told me Errol.” Toddy heaved himself over a fallen log. These country walks never got easier.

“Well then, you don’t know if it’s true then do you?” Errol eyed the webs over head. He whipped around scratching Toddy on his fleshy arm. “There’s the web, gotta stop the bleeding, Toddy.”

“You’re a prat, Errol.” Toddy reached for the web. He’d kill Errol for that.

Something's Coming: Friday Fictioneer

This week we get this unbelievably cool picture from Stacy Plowright and this time I'm not sure what to make of my story. You be the judge and don't forget to visit some others participating on this week's Friday Fictioneers.

Clouds in Toronto by Stacy Plowright

“Look outside for me. I can feel the air. Something is coming Martha.”

“Oh don’t be silly Cheryl. If anything it’s just a storm.” Martha was tired, she’d been at work all day, she just wanted to relax. She did not want to be anyone’s eyes. Not even Cheryl’s.

“But I can feel it, Martha, something is coming.” Cheryl pleaded.

Martha huffed. She cracked and popped as she left the couch, achey bones dragging themselves to the window.

“Oh my God, the clouds...” she gasped. They rolled in waves toward their home, heavy and dark.

“Martha? Mar-tha? MARTHA....”

Friday Fictioneer: The Living Mist

This week's Fictioneer Photo Prompt comes from Maggie Duncan. A member of e-Fiction and the woman who first introduced Friday Flash Fiction to me.

This picture brings back the Tia we all know and love. No sugary sweet love stories here.

By Maggie Duncan
The Living Mist

It rolled in last week covering the shores, then it made its way past the buildings that pretended to be the port. By the time it covered the fields, forests and meadows, the country was in full scale panic. It circled the city and all the land around it, every mossy covered rock and stream.

The mist thickened just like the little girl asked. She was such a sweet girl and it would do anything to please her. She just wanted to get away from the mean people in town. Pretty soon, the mist would take it all away.

Friday Flash Fiction: Tap Water is Good

I'm not that big of a girly girl to drink from the tap. So when I saw this week's picture I had to poke fun.

Dave and his dog visibly relaxed as they walked up to the faucet near the public pool. Turtle Pond was not pleasant during Indian Summer.
“Gross faucet water.” Charlotte and her dog “Muffin” scoffed at the old tap.
“Do you see any stores around here with sparkly shit for Magic Muff there?”  Bliss, it was still running, he and the dog drank greedily.
“I’m just saying bottled water is better for you.” She up-ended her empty container mournfully.
Dave snatched the bottle from her. Filing it, he threw it back.
“You want bottled water, there, you got bottled water.”

Friday Fictioneers: Under the Vines

This week I got a full three days to think over what to write and I was damn stuck! When am I ever not stuck? Well I'll tell you it's not "A Walk In The Clouds" with Keanu Reeves but boy do I wish it was...

Under the Vines:

“He’s out there after every thunderstorm.”
“After thunderstorms? The ground is still wet?” Keri was shocked. Kids did not sleep under grape vines.
“I think he likes the smell.” Mercer blanched at Keri’s stare. “We cleared away most of the crap under there and laid out a blanket.”
“But he’s in the vine, Mercer! What does Edward think he’s doing under there?”
“I’m listening.” The little boy in question entered the kitchen, covered in leaves. “To things you will never understand.” The boy’s eyes blazed a faint purple haze. “Things you will never see.”
“You’d best leave.” Said Mercer. ”Now.”

Friday Fictioneers- For Power

At about 8:22 This morning I actually looked at the Photo Prompt. It's 8:54 and this is what I came up with in a little amount of time. I apologize of this isn't what I normally offer.

Side Note: If anyone has ever watched Adventures of Milo and Otis, this picture will remind you of the Dreaded Dead Wood Bird, Otis met the day after Milo floated away. So what? I like that movie. NO I LOVE THAT MOVIE... Sorry about that.

Side Note Two: I really looked at this briefly and copied it from the Facebook Page. It looked like a really big crow. Upon further investigation on Ms. Woods Page, I found the original file and it's a Buzzard. Man, somedays rush jobs are just not the thing.

Another Side Note: Crows are omens of good and evil. They carry with them a lot of cunning, intelligence and power no matter size. Without further ado...

For Power

“Crow, in the trees.” Michael said.
“Where?” Michelle, his twin sister followed. It’s been years since they went camping together.
The crow perched on a dead tree far from the trail.
Michelle eyed the bird in the skeleton tree. Beneath it’s feet lay a smaller crow. It’s chest cavity open and bloody. The larger crow in the tree squawked triumphantly.
“Is that a Jackdaw?” She asked.
“Yes.” Michael wrestled his little sister by four minutes to the ground. She watched him with horrified dying eyes as he ripped her body open and ate.
“For power.” She heard, then nothing.

Friday Fictioneers: Hide Out

This week's Photo Prompt comes from Amanda Gray. Very Nice! What's funny is that I totally procrastinated on this picture. I had an idea for something more ominous and sinister. It was gearing up to be something scary. Then after I wasted the entire morning doing nothing.

I realized that I need to actually put it down. And when I did, something else came out completely.

Hide Out

“We’re the only building out here for miles of course they’ll find us."
“They don’t know this place like we do. They don’t know about the caves."
“Yeah great, if we could get to the caves from this place. We’re wide open, you ass."
Turner grabbed Wilson by the ear. Outside the desolate shelter, Turner kicked over a wood pile revealing a dark tunnel dug deep in the ground. He glared at Wilson until the other man blinked
“Cave.” Wilson said.
“Cave. I dug it two years ago. When these things arrived.”
“That’s back when...”
“When they killed my wife.”

Flash Fictioneer Friday: Berries and Pip

For once I actually got my story down to not 100 but 99 words! Yeah I'm awesome *wink
This week we have a truly lovely picture from Ms. Woods, which reminds me that I need to get my indoor herb garden situated. I want mint darnnit! But I'm getting off topic.

I challenge you to figure out where my inspiration for this week's offering comes from.

~ Pip saw the berries the first time last week. They were further up than he’d ever climbed before. He nervously groomed his nose while he made up his mind.

“Sweet looking berries there Pip” Bolo grunted as he nudged the young pup, just for nudging sake.
“They do look juicy, Bolo” Pip stammered.
Bolo tested the base of the the fruit heavy branch. “You’re small enough Pip. Go out and get em’, and you better not eat any of them.”
Pip reached the berries just as Bolo squealed. The adder Pip escaped earlier, found it’s evening meal.
Pip smiled. ~

Stay tuned for another entry over the weekend. I've got my hands on something NON-Fiction for once that just so happens to not have been published and I get to wax poetic all over it.

Friday Fictioneer: The Dragon Fly and the Princess

This Friday brings the return of the Fictioneers to this blog and boy does Ms. Woods want to test me. This week we have a little girl and her father. I hope everyone thinks back to when little kids make too much sense and get a chuckle out what this little Pumpkin has to say.

The Dragon Fly and the Princess:

"Daddy I want it."
"Why do you want it cupcake?" The Dragon Fly perched on a rock waiting for the answer.
"Because it's pretty. And, and, you said princesses should have pretty things."
"Yes Pumpkin, but what if it already belongs to another princess? Won't that make her sad?"
The Dragon Fly released a breathe. What the father said made sense even if there were no other princesses.
The little girl thought.
"There are no other princesses Daddy, if there is, she's invading." The King realized his error.
"Yes Pumpkin, there aren't any princesses."
"If there is Daddy, you have to kill her." The Princess smiled brightly. "I want it Daddy."

Friday Fictioneer: The Jump

This week was so terribly hard that I had to look to Chewy for inspiration. Seriously I looked at Chewy for hours on this. He climbed in my lap and stared back. What a sweet guy:

I often wonder what a dog thinks about when the human is out of control. Hopefully my take on this isn't too far fetched.

All she needs to do is love me. Let me sit in her lap and scratch my fur.

But I'm strapped to her chest, strapped to some guy that I keep growling at, in hopes of her sending the stinky man away.

He smells like poop. And he keeps trying to mate with her. I dislike him.

It's cold and I can't really breathe well. Out in the distance there is something shiny that has no legs. How is it standing?

The three of us seem to be getting closer to the end where there's a big hole. He keeps pushing us, and my human is scared.

Surely we're not going to fall?

Teaser for Wednesday / Call the Cops-and the Post Office

It is my greatest pleasure to say that this Wednesday I am going to review Gini Koch's latest book in the Kitty Katt Series Alien Diplomacy. While this weekend I struggled with a weekend edition on dating and failed miserably, I did finish her book and got to ponder it at leisure.

Then comes Monday and with that the start of my next book for next Wednesday. Trust me anything after Gini Koch better be dam good. Thanks to Madison Woods' facebook page I find this written by Ms. Koch herself, in Science Fiction Daily, about why her science fiction is so freaking awesome. Because it's funny. FACT

She makes a valid point and then sells you on one her other series to the point that I really want to go clear a section of me already cluttered book shelf just for her. Lord help me I might have to get another shelf.

Call the Cops -and the Post Office

Kiddies this weekend while I was home alone the whole weekend (yeah that's bad) some jacktard decided to wash a check of mine and attempt to cash it. Lucky me or unlucky how ever you want to look at it, I'm broke. He re-wrote it for $675 I don't have that in my account. I have like $40. It of course bounced.

I tried to figure out how this happened and came up with mail box tampering. Thanks to my friends and their expert level skill on Google, we found the guy. I have his facebook and myspace page, I know what high school the guy goes to. I've manage to prepare a packet for whom ever decides to actually investigate. But here I should share with you how this made me really feel.

I'm pretty butt hurt about that. Frankly I feel that it's appropriate. I could be wrong though.

So I took the following actions: I called the bank, the Post office my Uncle Jack, the Police, the big three credit bureaus, the police again, the bank again, my brother Darryl, my brother Dana, the Post Office again, Dad to wish him happy birthday and finally Mom.

There are a billion things I could have done this weekend but this gross violation of privacy took front and center so I had to deal with that.

What I want to know is: Who steals from poor Veterans on meds? Seriously, the check was for meds, I need those. Have you seen me off my meds? It's not pretty. And I tell you what this guy should be scared if I go up there to get my refill and I can't get them. I might jut blow my top.

What I keep hearing from the parties not associated but still concerned is that the Post Office will probably be the ones to catch the guy as opposed to the Police. That does not bode well with me. My parents were both at one time Police Officers. I'm pretty cool with the ones I have to deal with and it looks bad to me that another agency might get all the glory on this.

But what can I do but keep my information organized and give copies to both.

I think I'll go start my next book Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Don't forget to check back on Wednesday for Gini Koch's review.

Friday Flash Fiction: Start The Day

Today's Flash Fiction comes to us as some really calm peaceful quiet thing. If I could see this every day, I think I'd be a very happy person.

Start The Day

"Hey want to make some coffee while I admire the view?" Will yawned. The hills called in a way that demanded Willy's attention this morning.

"I'd rather watch your face." Greg opened the small velvet box. "Wilhelmina, would you marry me?"

"You must be joking."

"I'm not." Greg hoped she wouldn't stall. She loved him, he knew this. Everyone they knew, knew this, except her.

"Greg, no."

"Why?"

"Because… I can't okay." Willy turned from the beautiful hills. They'd be forever ruined now. She placed her hands over her thickening belly. "This wouldn't be right, Greg."

"Because it's not my baby?"

She froze.

"I know it's not mine, Will. I love you anyway."

Can you freaking say no to that?

Photo Prompt for Flash Fiction

Once again Ms. Woods has found a deliciously grand picture sure to inspire all kind of great short stories. I supposed I should get cracking on mine:

Over on the Facebook page, the thread discusses where this lovely picture came from. The story is that there is a very lucky writer who passes this everyday on his way to and from work. That man is blessed, whether he wants to admit it or not. Cheers to you, Lucky Bastard. I get to stare at a base.

Friday Flash Fiction: Best Hubby Ever

My blog has been neglected, if not for this Flash Fiction I think I'd have given up a while ago, having caved in to the amount of stress I make for myself. That being said I figured I'd try something mundane this week for my short. I have to say though the Fictioneers who got the jump early had some pretty great stories.

The Best Hubby Ever

"Hurry I'm starving." Was the last thing Tracey said right before she passed out. Tracey always said that right before the booze in her system shut her down. Most nights Dave could gauge it and decide whether she'd actually eat. Judging by her snores he, climbed in bed beside her.

An hour into his bed time she woke up looking for her McFlurry.  After years of being married to Tracey he was never wrong. He put on his clothes and drove to the nearest drive through.

It's closed. Moths had settled on the window. No grease was cooking, no ice cream, no french fries, no sleep. He guessed he'd go home and cook.

When he returned home he found his wife curled up on the couch, asleep, again.
