Friday Flash Fiction: Tap Water is Good

I'm not that big of a girly girl to drink from the tap. So when I saw this week's picture I had to poke fun.

Dave and his dog visibly relaxed as they walked up to the faucet near the public pool. Turtle Pond was not pleasant during Indian Summer.
“Gross faucet water.” Charlotte and her dog “Muffin” scoffed at the old tap.
“Do you see any stores around here with sparkly shit for Magic Muff there?”  Bliss, it was still running, he and the dog drank greedily.
“I’m just saying bottled water is better for you.” She up-ended her empty container mournfully.
Dave snatched the bottle from her. Filing it, he threw it back.
“You want bottled water, there, you got bottled water.”

    1. I could understand where you're coming from, jaundice is not pleasant. I think the point was that Charlotte and Magic Muff are the kind of creatures that are on the higher side of high maintenance. If I was thirsty and the option was an out side tap or an empty bottle I'd take the tap.

  3. Nice dry wit there - water is water, bottled or not. Well done.

  4. Nice! Prissy people are annoying, and I loved how this one got his comeuppance.

    1. I hear know what you mean. Turtle Pond is a Parkway in Massachusetts that has a public pool hidden in the woods. If you can find the place on foot you'd consider yourself lucky. I have been a few places where the tap is really awful. This place isn't ne if them.

    1. Thank you. And as for my friend well she was a good sport about it, so all was not completely lost.

  7. I wonder if Magic Muff would really taste the difference. My dogs would drink rusty water if need to.

Where I live, people drink more water from the tap than bottled. Stick tap water in the fridge and it'll be delicious.
Our water doesn't taste like a swimming pool, though. Haha.

    1. I was raised on tap water in and out side of the house. I tend to laugh and sometimes cry when I know that the water in the area is good and people still buy the bottled stuff. Hey that's just me. Welcome to the Fictioneers.

  8. I don't think that I've every drank straight from a tap, but I've found that the water straight from the garden hose tastes better than the water from the sink. His response was spot on. You've done a very nice job with this one, Atiya.

    1. I think so too. Must be because it's outside and you don't have to get a glass. Thanks for the response.

  9. The irony is that bottled water usually is no different or better than tap water, as long as the tap water isn't toxic in some way. I enjoyed your story!

  11. I liked your story, Atiya, particularly the last line. I could see it. The high maintenance girl, her ankle biting dog and the boyfriend who's had enough. Good job.

    1. It's awesome that you picked up that Muffin or Magic Muff is an ankle biting dog and I didn't even mention that. Thanks for coming by.

  12. Haha! I always refill my water bottles. Never believed that stuff about bottled water anyway. Just convenient sometimes. Good job. http://shirleymccann.blogspot.com/2012/07/friday-fictioneers-imagine.html
